The Socialists were defeated in 31 municipalities and badly beaten at Accrington, Blackburn, Croydon, Darling, East Ham, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, Preston, and Rochdale, where thov polio 1 heavily at the general elections. They won scats at Clone Valley, Sunderland, Middlosborough, Burnley, and Sheffield. The Unionists gained one to six scats in 57 boroughs_which returned Liberals or Socialists to Pa rliameut. Koir Hardio’s brother, and all the other Socialists, except one, were defeated at the Glasgow- municipal elections.
