A SERIOUS ASSAULT.

Per Press Association. Auckland, November 6. A young man named Gordon Henderson, while returning home at Ouehnnga at 3 a.m. after a dance was struck on the head, presumably with a sandbag. He states that he grappled with his assailant, who escaped with his clothing badly torn. He reached home but was subsequently unconscious for half an hour and seriously ill. He cannot ascribe, any cause for the attack, but supposes | tiie motive was robbery. Henderson iiad recently been running at what are known as tbo gaslight sports. Ho is described as a respectable young fellow and his friends believe his story.
