RAGGING ENQUIRY AT CHRISTCHURCH.
Press Association. Christchurch, November 1. Tho ragging inquiry was resumed to-day. Five cleaners working in the same shed as Bray denied that Bray was interfered -with in any way by them, nor did they see any others interfere. There was no slurrying or they would have seen it. They would not thiuk a slurry or two was likely to hurt a man who was working and dirty, at any rate. Bray, recalled, said the night foreman locked up his bicycle in the storeroom every evening after the first night because ou that night one of the valves was removed. Ou Thursday aud Friday mornings the night foreman came aud stood by while witness washed, to see that he was not interfered with. Ton other witnesses followed, and all corroborating previous five. Harry Jackson, Locomotive Engineer for the Huruni-Bluff section, stated that complaints had been received from the cleaning sheds from time to time, lint nothing more serious than horse play and tho throwing of slurries was alleged. No indecency had been complained of. He thought that even if the supervision were trepled, it would be impossible to prevent a certain amount of horseplay taking place. If there were any seriuos abuse in the shed ho felt sure there were at least half-a-dozen lads who would come forward aud say so. The officesrs of the department were doing their best to put down any sky-larking aud horse play. The inquiry concluded tills evening and the commission will report to the department.
