TATTERSALL’S SWEEPS.

Press Association —Copyright Hobart, November 1. A dispute involving over £50,000 is being considered by tho Government in connection with Tattersall’s sweeps. In October, 1904, a Lottery Act was passed which provided that payment of two penny stamps tax on all 5s lottery tickets or fraction of ss. The tax was passed on to the purchaser and tickets had a face value of 5s 2d printed on them. The Crown law officers express the opinion 4 that 2d is a fraction of 5s and that the tax should be 4d.
