Notice is hereby given that at special meetings of the Rangitikei County Council held at Marton on Saturday, sth Ootober, 1907, resolutions were passed making and levying Special Kates for the payment of interest and other charges on loans authorised to be raised by the said Council under the provisions ot "The Local Bodies Loans Act, 1901," as follows: (1.) A special rate of one penny and eleven fortieths of a penny (1 11 40d) in the £ sterling upon the rateable valuation of all rateable pro perty of the Pukeokahu Spec : al Rating District; in respect of loan of £5,500 for trimming and installing on the Pukeokahu and Mangahoata road?, about 10 miles. (2.) A Special Rate of oce farthitfg £-1) in the £ sterling upon ths rateable valuation of all rateable property of the Awarua South Speoial j Rating District in respect of an addi- : tiona! loan of £BOO, being ten per centum of the original loan of £3OOO raised for culverting and metalling the Makohine-Macgaweka Road. j (3.) A Special Rate of one-eleventh ; of a penny (1-lld) in the £ slerlng ! upon the rateable valuation of all rdteable property of the Papakai Special Rating District in respect of an additional loan of £l2O, being ten per centum of the original lohu of ■ £I2OO raised for trimming, culverting and gravelling the Papakai Road. (4.) A Special Rite ot one-thir-tieth of a penny (l-30d) iD the £, stotl ng upon tho rateable valuation of all rateable property of the Whareroa Special Rating District, in respect of an additional loan of £l3O, being ten per centum of tho original loan of £I3OO raised for acquiring, fencing and completing formation ot the "WiWeroa Road.
(5.) A Special Rite of one thirtyeighth of a penny (l-88d) in the £ sterling upon the rateable valuation of all rateable property of the Brandon Hall Special Eating District in respect of an additional loan of £7O, bemg ten per centum of the original loan of £7OO raised for construction of bridge over Tutaenui Stream and metalling on theCraudon Hall Road. (6.) A Special Rate of one-eighth of a penny (£d) in the £ sterling; upon liho rateable valuation of all rateable property of the Moawhaogo South Special Rating District in respect of an additional loan of £SO, being ten per of tho original loan of £SOO raised for metalling the Moawhango Valley Road from Pukeckahu Road to Otuarei Stream. Sanson Bulls, Halcombe, .3ajgitikei and Hunterville. Ecniembar, I do them standing untied. The colts have absolute freedom of limbs, there is no chance of straining, as in the old methods. Comments by well-known settlers and horsemen:—
Mr W. J. Simpson, Huntcrvillo, says—- " I wouldn't take £5 and run the risk of throwing and tying my colts after hav-1 ing had them done standing." Mr John Cameron's old pony (Maungahoe) was in work inside three weeks from date of operation. Ho was 11 years old. Mr G~. V\\ Shannon's trotting stallion Con Eivon, G years old, was iu work in less than 3 weeks from date of operation. Mr Thos. Cameron, the well-known Starter, says the standing method is good enough for anything over foaled. Mr A. J. Bailey, Ohakea, says :—" I havo operated on colts, the old style, for over 30 years. I. had my colts done standing last season, and think the stand j ing method marvellous." | Messrs AV. Phillips, IVnuoy, Jean McKenzie, AVilliams, Job Harris, and many others oi Sanson; also Messrs John Baldwin, Turaknia; Sam Cameron and John Tricker, Bulls; Stock Inspector Miller, Peilding; J. Burton and Addsott, Colyton, endorse Mr Bailey's remarks. Mr Jas. McGregor, Ciiiuy, Turakina, writes: —" My colts wore done fino. It didn't trouble the big horse one bit." The big horse referred to U a full draught, 10] years old, unbroken, and never had a hand on him in his life until operated on. I have done horses standing from 4 months to IS years old.
