ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES
Per Pi ess Association Auckland, October 30. Mr John McLood, a settler of Paparoa. was killed by the accidental discharge of a gun while getting through a wire fence. The shot entered his head, and death must have been instantaneous. The body was found .lying half through the fence. Dunedin; October 29. A double fatality was narrowly averted near the terminus of the Mornington cable car early this evening. A woman named Mrs Hull, with au Infant in her arms, crossed in front'of a car, was knocked down and dragged six or seven yards. The car was brought to a standstill, when it was found that the woman was completely under tho body of the car, only her hands being visible. Tito woman was extricated with "some difficulty. She and tho child had a most fortunate escape. Tho child recoive.d a bad cut on tho forehead and the woman several abrasions on tho head, face, and limbs, aud was suffering considerably from shock. Had she been dragged a fow inches further she would have got underneath the hoavy beam supporting tho body of the car, and would havo been mangled.
