ANGLICAN MISSION WORK.

A Pasforal Letter-

11l the Anglican Churches on Sunday a pastoral letter was read “ f roin the Bishops of the ecclesiastical province of New Zealand to the clergy and laity.” After setting forth the need existing for mission work the letter continued: —“In view of these conditions, we have been urged by the General Synod to make such provision as may be found possible to secure the visit to this country of a sufficient number of devout and'able men from the Church at Home to go through the length and breadth of our land, and by the Grace of God to cause us to “ bear what the Spirit saith to the Churches.” It is our earnest desire that thereby the careless may bo aroused, the impenitent converted, the fallen recovered, and the wanderers brought back to the fold of Christ. ... It has been thought desirable that a preparatory Mission should be held in the oaiiy part of ihe year and the more comprehensive one at a later period in the same year, involving the advent of a considerable number of clergy to our shores. It is obvious that the expenses attending these journeyings will be considerable. Committees will bo formed in each Diocese to gather the necessary funds and to make other local arrangements, and we confidently rely upon our Lay brethren to supply what is needed. It is estimated that the total cost of both parts of the mission will not exceed £.-3500, and it is felt that before any definite arrangements are made some £2OOO should be paid or promised to tbe fund by May, 1908. The sum may appear to be a large one. but the windows of heaven are open in response to faithfulness, and we eiave your prayers and your alms, that showers of spiritual blessings may descend.”
