Wellington Sales, The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd., report as follows: —At Friday’s sale we offered a few odd bales and bags of wool, 1100 sheepskins and SGO hides and calfskins to a full attendance of buyers. The oddments of wool were not eagerly competed for, values were par to jd lower as compared with last sale. Sheepskins sold readily at quite up to last sales values, excepting badly damaged aud inferior lots which were irregular. Good well saved fine crossbreds fetched up to 9d, coarse wools up to 81 d. Green skins sold well. We got up to 9s for good heavy butchers’ lines. Hides: There was good competition and prices were well up to late rates for . good conditioned hides. Calfskins were rather easier at about Id below last sales prices. Wool: Medium crutchings, 5d to 51d ; inferior, 2id to 3Jd; dead wool, CJd to 7id. Sheepskins : Merino inferior, 6d to 6jd j halfbred and fine crossbred B|d to 9d j coarse crossbred, 7id to 8d ; dead, 6d to 71 d; broken and inferior, 4d to 6id ; green skins, 5s to 9s each ; green lamb skins, 9d to Is each. Hides: Ox, s}d to sid; cow, 4}d to • 4|d ; cut and damaged, 21 dto 4jd; calf, sound, best 6|d to did ; cut and damaged 3d to 4Jd. Tallow in tins to 23s per cwt.
Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their sale held at Wellington on Friday as follows: We offered a good catalogue of wool, skins, hides, tallow and sundries. There was a large attendance of buyers, and competition was keen for everything offered. Skins showed a slight appreciation on last sales prices, and hides ruled at same rates except heavy ox, these being in good demand at a slight advance. Wo quote ;—Wool: Mixed dead CJ£d, pieces 3d, inferior locks lj£d. Skins : Fine crossbred to B%d, medium to coarse crossbred 7%d to dead 6%d to 7d, damaged dead 2%d to damaged and broken crossbred Oj£d to o%d, butchers’ -half dry and green, light Cs 7d to <>s 4d, medium Weights 7s to 75.. 9d. Feilding Market Report,
Messrs A. H. Atbiusou nnd Go., Ltd., reportOn Friday wo had a heavy yarding of pigs of mixed j classes, which were offered to a largo , attendance of buyers. Bidding was not spirited as the milk is still a little scarce. A largo entry of poultry and produce also came to hand, for which there was keen demand. Quotations. Pigs: Wcauers small and stunted la C.d to Gs, good 8s to 12s 6d, slips 18s to Ids, stores jGs Gd to 24sJGd, porkers 27s to 28s Gd, sows 2Gs to 455. Poultry; Roosters 2s to 2s Id, hens Is 4d to Bs, ducks 3s Bd, turkeys 5s to Bs, all at each. Produce; Potatoes 5s to 13s Gd a sack, rhubarb Gd per bundle, chaff £ t 10s a ton, oats feed 4s Gd, seed ss, wheat 6s,‘barley feed 5s 3d.
High Commissioner’s Report. Press Association. Wellington, October 28. The High Oomissioner’s cablegram, dated London, October 2Gth, is as follows; — , There has boon a bettor tone in the mutton market this week in anticipation of small shipments from how Zealand. River PlatoXmuttou is in largo supply, and is being strongly pushed for sale at Bd. Canterbury mutton is quoted at North Island 3y,d. The lamb market is steady, and there is a good demand for prime quality, but dull sale for heavy carcases. Canterbury lamb is other than Canterbury s^d. The beef market is weak, with heavy supplies of River Plato bsef. Now' Zealand hindquarters 3-%d, forequarters 2%d. The butter market is very firm and excited by speculative demand owing to the expectation of small supplies coming forward. Supplies on band are small. Choicest New Zealand 120 s, Danish 138 s, Siberian 110 s. The cheese market is quiet with a tendency in favour of buyers. Canadian manufacture is G4s for coloured make, 63s for white. The hemp market is dull. Heavy shipments are'expected from Manila, and the American disturbance affects the market very seriously. Current quotations are : Good fair grade on spot £29, fair grade on spot £27 10s. Fair current Manila on spot £29, October - December shipments good grade £27 10s, fair grade £26 10s, fair current Manila £2B per ton. The cocksfoot seed market is quiet r. id buyers not keen to do business. There is no change in prices since last report. The wool market is firm and there is a general and active demand.
