FATAL SHOOTING ACCIDENT.

A Palmerstonian Killed. An accident, which terminated fatally occurred at Aorangi on Saturday afternoon, resulting in the death of Mr Alfred Godson (better known as Fred Hunt), stepson of Mr Stephen Hunt, of Palmerston North. A party of several young men were out shooting rabbits when the accident happened. One of the party, a youth named "Wiggins, was in the act of loading an old model breech-loader when the gun went off, shooting Gedson through the back. The affair took place near the bush on the Aorangi aide of the Oroua Eive'f. The rest of the party quickly communicated with Feilding, the ambulance was soon on the spot, and the unfortunate sufferer was brought into the Palmerston Hospital, where he expired shortly after his arrival.

Mr A. D. Thomson, S.M., went to the Hospital to take the depositions of the injured man, who on regaining consciousness stated that the affair was purely an accident. As he was in great pain the police did not call upon him to answer many questions. The young man was very popular in Palmerston, where ho had been working until a few weeks ago, and great sympathywill he felt for his relatives. An inquest will be held at the hospital to-day at 2 p.m.
