OPERA HOUSE, MARION.

Pollard’s Juveniles. It is almost thirty years since the Dominion first heard of Pollard’s Juvenile Opera Company, hut its name and its fame since then have grown familiar to our mouths as household words. It is now, we think, about four years since Mr Pollard left these shores for Smith Africa, and since then we lost trace I of him until he turned up at Christchurch as director of entertainments at the late Exhibition. Hero again wo find him at the head of a number of clever children, conducting yet another Juvenile Opera Company, which has started life, under most favourable auspices.

There is something in the performance of children which is peculiarly pleasing to the adult mind. It is one of those quaint absurdities of nature which demands that at some period or other of iris existence everyone shall be a child. This occurs sometimes in youth, sometimes in oldago, but its generality pledges all juvenile performances to generosity. “Bluebell in Firyland,” the production to bo presented at Marton on Friday night next, is written by a grown-up for children and grownups, and Mr Pollard is presenting

the opera on the same linos as for which it as written, and therefore the cast'is devoted almost eutirelyfto juveniles. Children bring to a stage presentation qualities of freshness and simple oarnosuess which are irresistible, so wo are not surprised to learn that since the inauguration of the company Mr Pollard and his 1 bevy of little dots have been break- j ing records wherever they have appeared. There is no treason to bo- I .ievo otherwise than that a record j will bo established in Marton, where f a season of positively one night only 1 will be opened c>B Friday evening ’ next, ‘ ‘ i
