Palmerston's Thursday .Sales
Messrs Dalgety and Company, UA., Palmerston North, report: —"A good yarding of cattle at their sale tins day, but bidding was dull and the majority of pens passed at auction. A line of extra prime fat eves realised 25s 6d. The H.Vj. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd,, report:—A heavy yarding of cattle came forward and there was a good entry of sheep. Beef was in good demand and sold well, there being a good enquiry also for fat sheep. Young cattle sold well and although we passed several lines at auction owing to vendors' reserves being on the high side, we were successful in quitting practically the whole yarding. Sheep.—Forward ewes and wethers 18s, fat ewes 21s to 21s 9d, Cull ewes and lambs 16s Gd, hoggets 15s 3d. Cattle—Yearlings 18s to 22s Cd, store cows, 26s to ,£2 ss, springing heifers .£3 to £3 17s Od, heifers in calf £2 7s Gd, yearling steers £2 10s, forward cows £3 10s, three year steers £,o ss, fat bullocks £[) 15s to dSIO 10s. Messrs Abraham and Williams report: Wo had a full yarding of cattle, over 000 head being submitted to auction, and with the exception of two lines oi steers every lot was disposed of at satisfactory prices. Competition all through the sale was good and a better demand for all classes existed. Sheep also met with keen competition and a clearance was made at the following prices:—Fat ewes 21s 7d, 22s 7d, 235, 23s 7d, 23s lid, 21s 7d, 25s Gd, and 31s Cd for two extra heavy ewes. Hives and lambs 22s Gd s 22s ?d, 25s Id to 2Ss 9d. Forward owes 17s Id. Forward bullocks £C> 10s, 3 and 4-year bullocks £5 17s, 3-year bullocks ,£5 6s. 2-i-year steers £i 10s, ISmos. steers .£2 7s to £2 12s, yearlings (mixed) 28s Gd, 2year heifers £2 to £2 3s, lomos. heifers 20s Gd, fat heifers £5 12s Gd, fat cows £i 15s, to £Cj 2s Gd, forward cows £2 Gs to £3 Is, springing boilers £3 Gs to £i, springing cows £1 to £6 ss, store cows 20s to 355.
Wheat Market
| Messrs Kayo and Carter, Ltd., Ohristcliurcli, report as follows: Whoat: Milling Tuscan 5s 8d to 5s M, pearl 5s lid to 5s lOd, Hunters 5s 8d to'ss ild, fowl wheat 5s 4d to 5s sd, f.0.b., Lyttolton, sacks extra. Milling wheat: The market is still very excited and prices liavo again advanced. Fowl whoat: Very scarco and in great demand. Oats : A Gartou 3s (id to 3s Bd, B Garton 8s od to 3s 7(1, Sparrowbills 3s 5d to 3s 7d, Danish 3s 5d to 3s 6d, Duns 3s Gd to 3s Bd, f.0.b., Ly*telton, sacks included. The market has again advanced, and offerings are very meagre and prices will probably go higher. Potatoes: Table sorts £4 10s to £5, Derwonts still in good demand at 5s to 10s advance on other sorts. Market excited, the demand exceeds the s apply.
