DOG WITH A WOODEN LEG.
: Walking along a country lane at ' Stanstead Abbots, Hertfordshire, a correspondent of the Daily Mail met a large sheep dog with a wooden leg. The animal was apparently suffering no inconvenience. Accompanying the dog were two ladies, : and they explained that the animal I met with an accident about four : years ago, his paw being shut in a door by some children. The wcuud was treated and appareantly healed, bat subsequently it got worse, and . it became Jnecessary a little while ago to amputate the leg. "Bobs" has become quite accustomed to his new limb, made by a London firm, and now capers about almost as well as ever. "This is tnot the first ■ artificial limb that "we have made , for dumb animals by any means,'' said the manager of the firm to a representative of the Daily Mail. i "Only the other day we made a ! wooden fore-leg for the dog of a ■ well-known Loudon "journalist, and just before that a wooden hind-leg for a celebrated Alderney cow that : it was desirable should be kept for breeding purposes. Not a week ,' passes without a pet dog or cat being brought to us for the insertion of a glass eye, and for a time we had in our care a racehorse belong- ' ing to Mr McOalmont, which, : having put its shoulder out of joint, ; had to live for a time with the limb ;' in a plaster cast until the tissues : had regained their normal strength \ and the animal could walk without : artificial aid.''
