District High School
SIR.— I Tho Bulls School Committee having received intimation that tho High School at (Hulls had been approved, have lost no time in taking action. They held a special committee meeting on Thursday aud on Friday mot Mr Variiqy at i ho school, aud discussed matters very fully. It was decided that to meet the requirements of an up-to-date school a sum of at least £IOO would ba required, so that the people of the district require to raise £2OO (tho Government contributing £1 for£l), and of this amount about 1 £6O was raised in two days. Mr John Stevens has since sent a cheque for £lO 10s, which leaves an amount of about £3O necessary fo ho subscriber!. The committee would like to mako an appeal to tho parents and others in the district which will bo served by the high school to raise this money at once, say within the next fortnight. Subscriptions can bo paid in to tbs credit of the District High School Fund at the Bank of Now South Wales, Bulls, or will bo received by any of tho members of tho school committee. Tho importance of promptness is ou account of tho fact that dirbetiy This amount is paid over to the Education Board tho now building would bo 'commenced, and would probably bo ready to be opener! bv tho beginning of tho •year. Besides the £ for £ tho Government provide all equipment. There is, however, a further step the committee are taking aud this is applying to tho Education Department to have tho school started at once. Tho committee have now a now listto forward to Wanganui of nearly 40 intending pupils. Tho Bulls School has' a spare room and has also the latest improved desks aud appliances, so that there is nothing iff hinder tho school being at once com; menced, exceptjtho appointment of a teacher. The advantage of this speaks for itself as delays might moan a loss of students, to say nothing of tho advantage it would give to tho status of the primary school. The committee, therefore, appeal very strongly to all who have the interests of secondary education at heart to endeavor to mako this effort a success. Either Mr Homes, treasurer of the subscription fund,_ or myself would be pleased to give any information aud will undertake that subscriptions will ho acknowledged in tho Advocate.—l am, etc., THOS. WM. DOWNES, 0.8. Chairman Bulls School Committee.
