MARTON RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION.
The annual meeting was hold last night, Mr J. McEldowuoy presiding. Tho annual report showed that monthly mootings had boon hold throughout tlie year and various matters iu connection with the progress of tho borough had been discussed. Tlie president, iu conjunct tion with the Mayor and Mr Davenport, had been appointed a holiday committee. In December last a byelection was hold to fill an extraordinary vacancy on the Connell. Mr J. McEldowuoy was nominated aud returned by a substantial majority. In April of tho present year a general election for (seats on tho Borough Council took place. Messrs J. McEldowuoy, H. Sutcliffe, Hilton, Lyon, Gould, and Goile wore nominated by tho Association, the first five gentlemen being elected. The statement of receipts showed a credit balance of £3 7s 2d. Mr J. McEldowney was nominated as president, but he declined the position aud Mr J. I’. Sicely was elected president,Mr J. MatJiersjboiug ro-oloctod vice-president. Several important matters, including tho question of the borough boundaries, ;tho proposed loans aiid tho water supply, were discussed. A resolution was passed urging on the Council the, necessity for laying larger mains from the reservoir'to tho Borough Council Chambers and down Wellington road to Morris street, aud, to make necessary improvements to the reservoir. , A vote of thanks to tho late president (Mr J. McEldowuoy) aud tlie lion, secretary concluded tho business.
