Mr Lloyd George, M.P., President of the Board of Trade, invited the chairmen of the principal privately and informally discuss with him tho whole situation. He declares that hois not acting under any powers which tho Conciliation Act confers on the Board of Trade. _ The companies are arranging a strike time-table.
The Great Western Railway Company, in a circular, asks the clerks whether they intend to remain loyal in the event or a strike, and whether they are prepared to undertake duties outside their grades. October SO.
A Conference of all the railsvay men's Unions, including the Associated Engineers and Firemen, representing 140,000 employees unanimously decided to demand tho recognition of the ' amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. It is claimed that the harmony between the Amalgamated Society and the Associated Unions is due to the intervention of the Parliamentary Committee of the Trades Congress. The Spectator and Saturday Review aro emphatic in supporting the recognition of the railway men's claims the samo as those of other unions.
