A DEFEATED PROPOSAL.
Press Association. Ashburton, October 11. A poll was taken to-day on a proposal to raise a loan of X 20.000 to provide a high-pressure water supply for the borough. Out of 700 voters on the roll, only 385 exercised their privilege, and, the opposition party having worked hard, the proposal was lost by 280 votes to 89.
