Melbourne, october_lo- - owing to Ins defeat at Kandwick yesterday, has been knocked back in the Caulfield Cup betting and 10 to 1 can now be obtained- about bun. Subterranean, on the other hand, has advanced in favor and has been well supported at 5 to 1. 11 to 2 is taken and is wanted m expectation that a movement would be made by those connected with lolaire and Apologue, and punters have stepped in and taken 100 to 8 about each other. Prices are 14 to 1 Ebullition, Bendigo and Yabba Gabba, and 16 to 1 Booran. There is little or no betting over the Melbourne Cup, for which Apologue is the nominal favourite at 7to 1. Zinskie has been scratched for all engagements.
Otaki MeetingSecond Day. The Otaki Spring Meeting was concluded yesterday. The attendance was limited. The amount put through the totalisator totalled £3303, making the two day’s figures £10,581, as against £13,138 for the corresponding fixture last year, a decrease of £1617. The Voucher and Paparaebi were out iu front of a bunched field as they crossed the jump opposite the box. St. Amelia joined Paparaebi in the lead going down the back and these two were still in the van on the homo bend and entering the straight. The Voucher heading the rest. In the run to the post St. Amelia had all the best of the argument with Paparaebi, winning by a length and a half. The Stake held a slight advantage from a bunched field down the back and well round the home bend. At straight entrance a sheet would have covered the lot. At the distance they all looked to have a winning chance. Under the whip Waitapu gradually forged ahead while William also drew out. Waitapu had no difficulty in keeping William at bay and won fairly comfortably by a length and a half, about two lengths between second and third. Saga was fourth. Time, Imiii 35secs. Press Association Napier, October 10. The Napier Park Racing Club’s Spring Meeting concluded to-day in fine weather. The attendance was large for a second day. The sum of £7510 was invested on the totalisator, making £17,048 for the two days, an increase of £2689 on last year’s total.
