AVelljlnciton, October 7. The following is the report of tlxo High. Commissioner, dated Loudon, October 4th :
The mutton market is slightly weaker, and there is a less demand. Canterbury mutton 3 7 g d, North Island S%d. There is a good demand for prime quality lamb. Canterbury other than Canterbury s}£d. The beef market is dull. Supplies of American chilled beef are large. Hind quarters d%d, forequarters 2%d. The butter market is very firm. There is a better demand and supplies are decreasing. Following are current quotations:—Australian 113 s, saltiess 2s premium over this figure ; Danish 117 s. Siberian 100 s. The cheese market is firm. Canadian white’6ls, coloured 635. The hemp market is quiet, prices being slightly weaker. Good fair grade on spot £33, fair grade ditto £29, Ootober-December shipments, fair grade, £3B 10s. The cocksfoot seed market is very firm, aud buyers have been offering more freely. Bright • clean Now Zealand 171 b seed 68s.
Tho hop market is firm. Tho crop is much below the average, and prices are rising. Present price £5 5s per cwt. The wool sales have closed. There has been an exceptional demand. The stock is moderate and manufacturers require supplies. Trade is good aud likely to continue so. The prospects are favourable aud estimated values are as follows:—Fine crossbreds, all grades, Is 3d to Is sd, medium lOd to Is Ijßd, coarse 9%d to 12iM, superior merino 18,}MI to 16d, medium ,13d to inferior B>i'd to 111-Ad.

London/ October 6. At the wool sales jnst closed 1*4,600 bales wore sold, fclio Homo market taking 48,500, Continental 83,000, American 2000, and 7500 were hold over. As compared with the July sales, merinoes closed 10 to per coat higher, fine crossbreds 5 to 11/,,I 1 /,, coarse 5 per cent higher, mediums unchanged, lambs 5 to 10 per cent higher, erssbreds Id higher. The Goar clip sold at ll%d. Sheepskin auctions will be held on January 16th, March 12th,' May 7th, June 25th, July 30th, September 10th, October 22nd, and December 17th. Compared with last sales closing rates prices rominu about the same for crossbred slipe, and for medium greasy crossbred. Prices are higher by 5 to 71 per fine crossbred. Stdtjk Report. Messis Dalgety and 00., Ltd., report on their Feildiug sale of the 4th iust., as below Owing to heavy rains a large portion of stock advertised was unable to be brought forward. Ewe hoggets realised 18s <ji, wether hoggets 14s 9d, mixed weaner steers and heifers 28s Cd. Feildiug Market Report. Messrs A. H. Atkinson and 00., reportOn Friday we had a good atendance of buyers and submitted a largo entry of pigs which made satisfactory f prices and the yarding all changed hands. A fair entry of poultry came to hand and sold well. The produce entry was not as large as usual, owing no doubt to the rough weather experienced lately. Quotations: —Pigs. Weanera 9s tp 12s 3d, slips 12s fid to 14s 9d, siuull stores 15s, good stores 27s to 50s. Poultry. Hons 2s to 2s fid, roosters Is fid to 2s 7d, ducks 2s Id to 2s fid, turkey hens 3s fid, all at each. lb'*- 1 ' duco. Potatoes, pig 2s fid to 3s 3d. Bating do Os fid to 12s fid, horse carrots 8s per sack. Bacon, factory, sides 7>£d, hams 7%d.
