Tho Economist says that the average decline in prices of tho principal commodities in September was 22,3 per cent, manifested chiefly in quotations of raw' material used in the staple industries. The previous excessive rise, particularly in coal, checked the demand, and the decline is in nowise an unmixed evil and should help to regulate tho ebb of the industrial tide and mitigate tho disturbances and distress attending the pause in manufacturing industry.
