Wool and Skin Report,
Dalgcty and Co., Ltd., Falmerston North, report having held their usual monthly' sale of wool, skins, hides, etc. There was a good attendance of buyers, and there was keen competition for all lots offered. Wool; "Wo offered a small catalogue consisting principally of crutohings and -dead wool of medium quality. Prices wore on a par with last sale. Crutchings, medium, 5d to s|d; inferior, lid tc l:;d ; dead, Gifd to 7ifd; pieces, 3Jd ; crossbred and black, 6.]d. Sheepskins ; We offered a fair catalogue but competition was not as keen as last sale, the prices were slightly easier; inferior pelts, lid to Old ; short wools, 5d to 6id ; dead hoggets, S-fJ to Old; dead, 6|d to 7id; crossbred, 7d, 7id to 8d ; lambs, 8d; butchers, part dry and part green, 5s 8d to 7s, and 7s 2d to 8s 7d for good heavy skins. Hides ; Thera was a keen demand, and prices all round showed an advance of from Jd to Id per lb. Our offering consisted of medium cow and ox. Medium to heavy ox, old to 5Jd ; medium to heavy cow, 4-iJd to 51; steers, 4jd ; cows cut, 3 LI; cows slippy, 3}d. Calfskins: Good competition at last sale rates. Good, 61d to 6|; medium, 5d to sjd ; meaty to -lid ; cut to 4|d; inferior yearlings, 3d; cut and slippy, 2}d. Sundries: Tallow in tins, 21s 9d; cow tails, Is 2£d; rabbit skins, 6d; skin pieces, 2d ; bones, 3s; horsehair, Is 3d. Our next sale takes place on Friday, Ist November. Consignments should reach our store at least three days before date of sale.
Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., reportWe held our usual monthly sale yesterday and had a good catalogue to offer buyers. It compiised 3 bales and 50 bags wool, 1500 skins, 1450 calfskins. 20 large hides, 45 tins and 3 casks tallow, 35 casks bones and the usual quantities of horsehair, cow tails, rabbit and dogskins. Buyers were well represented and competition was keen, hides showing an advance on previous sales. A line of ox hides realised sad, equal to 34s per piece, whilst the best pnce’for cow hides was sid, equal to 24s Id per piece. We quote:—W 001, crossbred 64d to 8d ; dead, 4jd to 8d; crutohings, 4d to 5Jd ; locks, 3d to 41d ; skin pieces, l.Jd; scoured do., B.'d; skins, crossbred, Vjd to g:Jd; dead, 64 Jto 7Jd; hoggets, 6id ; pelts, inferior, 5 Jd; black, 4|d ; butchers crossbred at per piece, Cs 7d, 6s lid, 7s sd, 8s Id, 8s sd; pelts, 2s 2d; lambs’ pelts. Is to Is 6d ; dead, 3s 7d to 4s lid per piece. Hides.—Heavy ox, 51dto 53d ; medium, 5d to sid; cow, heavy, 51 d; medium, 4Jd to 53d; light, 4Jdto4Sd; bulls’, 2Jd to m, steers’, to 4d; horse, 7s 9d to 10s; calves’, 5Jd to 63d ; calves’ cut, 4d; yearlings, 4gd ; dogskins, 3d. Feilding Wool, Skin and Hide Sale.
A. JI. Atkinson and Co., Ltd., report ;—At our monthly sale on Thursday we offered an average catalogue of wool, skins, Judes, tallow and usual sundries,- There was a good attendance of buyers. The wool was mostly crutchings whiuli made up to sld for medium lines. Dry skins,in sympathy with London were a shade easier than
last sale, bu butchers’ green and half dry sold well. Calf owing to an apparent glut in Australian markets showed a considerable drop in values. Quotations.—Wool, rough fleece, 7£d; dead, 7Jd to 7|d; crutchmgs infcrior, 4Jd; medium, 5Jd. Skins, fine bred, Sid; full wools, Bd:half to throequarter"wools, 7?fd; broken wools, 6|d; dead. 6;ldto 6fd. Pelts, broken, 6d; inferior, od to sfd; shorts broken, s£d; good, 6id; butchers’ green and half dry skins, os Id, 5s 4,6 s 10d, 7s, 7s Id, 7s 4d. Hides, ox, sound, 4|d to ofd; slippy, 2d; cow, slippy, 2|d; sound, 4£d to s id; calf, light, 4+d; dry, 4id, slightly cut, 3|d; rough, 3£d; cut and inferior, 3d; slippy 2|d. Tallow, tins, 10s to 22s per cwt; medium, cask 23s per cwt. Bones, 3s 9d per cwt.
Pahiatua Horse Fair, Messrs Mitchell and Griffith report a very satisfactory sale despite the fact that the weather turned out unfavourable, this preventing several entries coming to hand. The prices realised were as follows:—Medium draughts, £2B to £2O 5s ; farm trap horses, £l3 10s to £l4; hacks, £l2 3s to £7 7s 6d ; ponies, £5 7s Gd to £4 10s ; aged mare in foal with foal at toot, £lO 10s. The medium draughts, which were ot good quality, received the attention they deserved and bidding was very spirited. Hacks and ponies also were in demand, showing conclusively that this class of horse is a saleable article here. It was intimated that the next sale would be held in January.
Stock Report. The New' Zealand Loau and Mercantile Agency Go., Ltd., Feildiug, report for week ending 4fch iuat., as followsApiti sale, Tuesday. The continued rough weather is responsible for the small yardiugs at, these sales. Only one pen of sheep came forward and a fair yarding of cattle. Buyers wore present and with the exception of one pen .ill the sheep wore quitted. Quotations; Apiti. Sheep; Ewe hoggets 16s 2d. Cattle; 3-vr steers £5, 2is-yr steers £3 15s, 2-yr do £3 10s, 18-months do £3 10s, yearlings 83s fid, empty cows 325. Foildiug. Sheep; Hoggets 13s, 14s Od. Jos (id. 15s 8d; fat ewes 19s Gd to IPs Oil, aged owes and lambs 17s od. Cattle: Store cows £3.105, springing heifers £3 5s to £3 ss. Wool Sales London, October 4.
