OROUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting was hold yesterday. Present: Ors. Weepier (chair), Pearce, Vincent, Rowling, Reid. Oorufoot. CORRESPONDENCE.
From Feildiug Borough Council, asking for permission _to_ extend radius of Feildiug abattoir in Oroua County.—Consideration deferred. From Geo. Wheeler, on behalf of settlers along Makiuo road for permission to erect telephone wires.— Granted. From R. Anderson, being about to leave Council's employment, he asks for favourable reference.—To be
given. From D.O.A. iu bankruptcy of 1. 11. Linton, asking that £lO due to bankrupt be paid to him.—Payment to be made to legal claimant as soon as the work, contracted for is completed. From 11. Tremenwau, roadman, for sis weeks’ leave of absence.—Granted. From W. Waugh, stating he would pay no rent for enclosed road until traffic on it had been stopped,—Engineer to report as to whether the laud is fenced. From Arthur Harding, Siberia, stating that cutting at Manawatu Gorge Ferry Road was blocked.— Cutting to be cleared and improved. From H. J. Bailey, asking Council to remove the culvert put across the Stanway road, as it carried flood waters on his land. —Culvert necessary where placed. . . From Feildiug Motor Association, asking Council to erect danger signal on Cinder Hill, which would be supplied by Association. —Agreed to. From Thos. Hoult, requesting the Council to pay the sum of £175, purchase money of section acquired by Council in Manchester street, Feliding. into the Bank of Australasia. From A. Campbell, calling attention to state of watercourse opposite his father’s section.—Railway Department and Kairanga County Council to be written to on the matter. From Fred. Boyes and 22 other ratepayers of No, 5 Ward, requesting Council to widen three small cuttings on the Bunnythorpe road. - From John Graham, stating that settlers interested in the erection of a bridge at Menzies’ ford were willing to pay £230 towards the cost and donate the land necessary for the apwaited on Ik- «o request that that some steps I- taken to divert flood wateis, which now come down Kimbolton road ami on to their properties,—Engineer to report on the cause of these overflows REPORTS.
The Engineer reported that the recent heavy rains had caused a goo deal of damage to the roads 111 ‘he county. The most serious item had been the collapse of one of the four feet concrete culverts on AshhurstPalmerston road. He proposed replacing it with a larger (timber) culvert at a cost of £B. In the meantime the ford had been made passable for traffic. Other damages had been attended to. The cost of repairing the Kakariki bridge would be £l2. ihc work cf removing bridge at end of Spur road had beed let to Ben, Podlc at £O7 10s. He had prepared plans for the formation of one mile of tl e Onepuhi road through the Heu-Eeu native reserve, but in accordance with the
wishes of the natives this work was being held over until after the meeting of the Native Land Court. —The report was adopted. The Resident Engineer of the Lower Gorge bridge, Mr H. J. Haynes, reported that little had been done during the past month. The first pair of cylinders were expected in a few days' Arrangements have now been made for inspection of tho iron bark timber in Australia.,
The Sanitary Inspector reported the County free from infectious diseases. He reported a badly conducted slaughteryard at Colyton and dirty milking shed on same section,
