THE SAVAGE.
An African missionary once tried to coax a native savage to come down out of a tree and put on some clothes. “Why should I put on clothes?” asked the inquisitive savage. ‘‘l am more comfortable without them. “So as to bo decent,” replied the missionary. , , “And why should I want to be decent?” . , , , < ‘ln order that yon might become a respectable member of society and go into some kind of business, ’ ’ the missionary answered. . ‘ ‘And why should I want to go into business? 1 ’ persisted the ignorant wretch. “So that you might become rich. ‘ ‘And why should I want to become rich?” , “Then you won’t have to work. “I don’t have to work now,” said the sable philosopher, _ whereat he climbed a few limbs higher up and wont to sleep. ’ ’
