PROTECTION OF INFANT LIFE.

Per Press Association. Wellington, October 5

A deputation of ladies waited on the Minister for Public Health to-day, and urged the need for further protecting life, and preferred a request that the State should subsidise a doctor to attend poor mothers free of charge. In support, a distressing case was quoted, that of a poor woman who died iu child birth, and left four orphans absolutely unprovided for. In reply the Minister said there was no chance of anything being done in the direction indicated this year. Next year there would be a Hospital Bill and it would be for Parliament to consider how far it could go, he did not think there was a single case where medical aid would he wanting if it was asked for.
