At the Police Court this morning Arthur Towuley and Frank Lowndes wore charged with having sold liuor without a liconso at a recent hospital social. Sergeant Williams i -----that on tho night in question UOpwov— - ’--r «ui,. ho had a drink at tno , another gentleman. His friend placed a coin on the counter wnen tho drinks were served. ' There were a large number of coins in a saucer on the counter. Later ho had another drink, and put a shilling on the counter, which was taken and put in a saucer. No one was akod, in bjs hearing, to pay for the drinks. ; Another, witness spted he had got a drink without payment or putting ‘ion the slate.” A further witness stated tnat liquor worth £ls was supplied and only £3 was placed in the saucer. The Magistrate, who said ha had not soon a similar case in tho Courts before, reserved his judgment. October 1.
