Sydney papers to band by last mail bring details of the contest for the Rawson Stakes, in which the Now Zealand colt Maranui ran unplaced. The Sydney Mail, in referring to the contest, says.—Groat interest was manifested in the Kawson Stakes, for which 11- were stripped, among whom were such good performers as Collarit, Poseidon, Forge, Comely, and The Intended, as well as the Derby candidates, Blue Book, Porn, Welcome Trist, Maranui, and Mountain King. Poseidon, Collarit, and Peru had each° to put up 71b penalty; while Welcome Trist, Maranui, and Mountain King were allowed' 71b. When speculation opened Maranui and Mountain King divided favouritism, with Poseidon next fancied, but towards the close the New Zealander receded in the quotations, leaving Mountain King in the pride of place, with Poseidon next favoured. Coliarifc, who took charge soon after the start, essayed to win all the way, and held his place to the distance, just inside of which Poseidon and Mountain King closed upon him, and tho latter, cutting down the son ol Haut Brion, ere tho half-distanco_ was reached, cantered home an easy winner in very fast time. Mountain King was bred by bis owner, Mr John- McDonald, of Mungio Bundle, and is by Wallace—son of Carbine—from Bonnie Rosette (imp.), by Barcaldine. Mountain King is engaged in the A.J.C, Derby, to be nm on October 5.

The Mishap to Boniform. Advices to band from Sydney show that tho accident that befell Bonifoim, and which brought about his withdrawal from all Australian engagements, was the result of a mishap while in the stable. The seat of Boniform’s ailment is in the lumber muscle.
