CARNARVON.
(From Our Own Correspondent). 'A very pleasant evening was spent at a concert given on Wednesday night, 18th inst., in the Carnarvon JJarU i; in- aid of Hip Foxpon Presbyterian Church by a number of ladies and gentlemen from Foxtou to an appreciative audience. As the night was clear and bright moonlight, and the roads and ground had dried up pretty well, it wasn't after all an unpleasant jaunt to Carnarvon, notwithstanding the distance of the drive. The‘lino and mild night, in contrast to the cold and wet so . lately experienced, also brought quite a number out so that by eight O’clock the ball was pretty well filled. Mr E. B. McKenzie presided, and in a’few appropriate remarks introduced the Poston choir 1' The programme was excellent, consisting as it did, of a choice selection of popular English and Bcoteh songs, recitations and instrumental parts, flute and violin solos, rendered with considerable artistic effort and taste. The audience was manifestly well pleased will) the programme submitted, as each’ itcin v/us received with hearty applause, several of thorn wore loudly encored, to which the performers graciously complied. At tho conclusion a yp(e of thanks to tho performers was carried by acclamation, and tho singing of _ M _Anld Lang Syne,” in which all joined, : brought a very enjoyable evening to a oloss. ■ •* Tho Bey. ipr Aitkin, on behalf of tho choir, [apologised for 1 elm unavoidable absence of some' of the members owing to .sickness —la grippe—which is very preyaleuj in the district at present. Tho proceeds of the concert will add considerably to the church funds.
