HOTEL ENQUIRY.

Tho enquiry by the Christchurch Licencing Committee into the allegations concerning tiro control and conduct of tiro Criterion Motel was concluded to-day. 'Pi 10 matter first came before tlio cominiileo on September l>th and was tlion a- tuvaod until the 13th, when a quantity of contradictory evidence was given. An adjournment was then [•ranted for ibo purpose of enabling Mrs Areon, wife of the licensee, to attend and give evidence, vie being too ill to appear last week. Sirs Green, in her evidence la-day, denied that the house wax conducted in an improper maimer. Counsel tor Manning and Co., holders of a mortgage for „£S(!00 over tho property, urged that they, as innocent parties, should not ho nonalis.ed in the event of an adverse finding, and that an opportunity should bo given the licensee to soil out, so that the mortgagees might bo protected. 'Tho committee retired to consider their finding, and on returning, the 'Chairman made tho following’ statement, “ Tho committee are unanimously of opinion that the house has lie on improperly conducted and that neither Mr nor 31 vs Green are fit and proper persons to have the conduct of a licensed house.” As tho outcome of that decision they are not prepared at tins moment to say what tuoir action will bo, but will adjourn these sittings for seven days to enable the bench to consider the positien of tho innocent parties.
