Mr Bell intends to invite the Kailway Companies to consult the leading union officials relative to what is intended by the recognition of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants. All the principal railway companies declare that their decision not officially to recognise the Amalgamated Society is unaltered by Mr Bell’s threat to strike.

While the City regards the labour outlook as sufficiently grave, it thinks that Mr Bell’s influence may be taken, too seriously.
