The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report as followsAt Palmerston on Thursday, owing to. the wet weather, only a small entry of sheep and cattle came forward. We quote. —Sheep: Hoggets 16s 4d, woolly hoggets 18s Id, fat ewes 19s. Cattle ; Yearlings 29s 6d, 2-year heifers £2 2s to £2 6s, 18-months 1 heifers 39s 6d, springing heifers £2 17s Gd, cows in calf £2 15s to £3 15s, springing cows £6 10s to £8 ss, 2-year steers £3 13s. At Mr S. Hall’s clearing sale ou Monday there was a fair attendance of buyers with the result that all the cows were sold at fair values. The cattle were in good condition and close to profit. There was little demand for iiorses. Quotations: Dairy cows, £1 2s 6d, £4 os, £4 7s Od, £4 10s, £4 12s 6d, £4 15s, £4 17s Gd, £5, £5 2s 6d, £5 17s Gd, £6 17s 6d; late culvers, £2 10s, £3, £3 2s 6d, £3 ss, £3 7s 6d, £3 10s, £3 12s 6d, £3 15s. At Rangiwahia on Tuesday only a small yarding of cattle came forward. Prices were on a par with outside markets. Quotations ; Cows in calf £4 15s, yearling steers 345, empty heifers 27s 6d. At Mr Carey’s sale ou Wednesday these cows came forward in fair condition considering the rough weather experienced lately. A good number of buyers were present and the sale was a most successful one, the whole herd averaging £6 4s 7d. Mr W. A. L. Bailey’s cows also sold well, bringing from £5 10s to £6 ss. Quotations, £5, £5 2s 6d, £5 ss, £5 10s, £5 15s, £5 12s Gd, £6, £6 2s Gd, £G 10s, £0 15s, £C 17s Gd, £7, £7 ss, £7 12s Gd, £7 15s, £8 2s Gd £9, £9 ss. £9 10s, £9 15s; late calvers, £2 10s, £3, £4 ss. At Feilding on Friday we had a small entry of sheep, the rough weather preventing several lines from coming forward. There was a heavy yarding of cattle, which met with a'fair demand, particularly forward cows. Quotations.— -Sheep: Wether hoggets good 18s 4d. Cattle : 18-mouths’ steers (low condition) £2 Bs, Polled Angus mixed yearlings £2 12s Gd, store cows 21s to 3Cs, forward cows £2 3s Gd to £3 4s, cows in calf £3 to £3, springing heifers £3 5s to £3, fat bullocks £9.
Messrs J. H. Nix on "and Co. report Wo held our Wanganui sale on Wednesday, 11th instant, when we were favoured witli a large entry of cattlo, and a fair number of sheep. Bidding was brisk throughout, and we succeeded: in quitting the bulk of the yarding under the hammer. Wo quote :—Sheep : Fat wethers 33s 6d to 345, 4 and 6 tooth wethers 16s 7d to 18s Gd, mixed hoggets 13s 3d to 16s Gd, poor ditto 9s 3d to 9s 7d, mixed forward sheep IGs -Id, f.m. empty ewes 8s lOd. Cattle: Yearling steers 38s 6d, 18 mouths steers £2 IGs to £3 12s, 18 mouths heifers 34s to 265, 2 'year empty heifers Sts Gd to £3 2s, 3 to 3 year empty heifers £3 11s to £2 15s Gd, springingjjbeifers £3 13s 6d to £3 2s 6d, cows in milk (poor). £3 to £3 10s, others £3 to £2 4s, empty cows £1 17s to £3 Is, “cows in calf (poor) £1 IGs Gd to £3 9s Gd.
