SANSUN.

(From Oar Own Correspondent,) line of fat wethers passed through here tho other day. They were purchased on behalf of tho Wanganui Freezing Company from Mr S; Hammond, tho price being 35s per head. I read with a good deal of interest your report of the meeting of Bulls and Sanson School Committees rc District High School The writer thereof omitted a good deal that was said on behalf of Sanson. As a matter of face, the whole of tho arguments used laid been used before, the only fresh matter since Mr Braik’s report being tho examination of Bulls school, and as a result an increase in the list of pupils, and the shelving of Rougotea proposals. Farmers in this district have been very much interested in the proposal to abolish the duty on wheat and flour. Mr Hogg’s statement that wheat can be grown and sold profitably at 3s to os per bushel is open to question. Of one thing I feel sure, there would not bo any wheat grown here at snch prices. Farmers are, as a rule, freetraders, but it is felt that if we have to produce under protection it is only fair we should sell under protection. The proposal to substitute a sliding scale has more to recommend it, if tho minimum price of flour is not made too low.

Our newly-formed Yocal and Orchestral Society held its first practice on Tuesday night, and judging by:v tho progress made they should soon he able to give a good account of themselves. I notice that Mr A. Natschko is building a fine residence on his property at Frcckliugton’a Line. Mr T, Ingles, sen., who has sold his farm, intends residing ii> Nelson district.

The long spoil of wet weather is seriously retarding agricultural operations, and has upset the calculation of a good many farmers. If it continues much longer there will bo an increased area in rape and turnips.
