Press Association.—Copyright. Bengal, September 13. There have been numerous assaults on Europeans in Eastern Bengal. Huurdeds witnessed the assaults, yet the police are unable to procure evidence.
According to the newspaper Englishman the deportation of tho agitator, Lajpatria, was due to native officers informing their colonels that the troops’ loyalty would ho doubtful .if ho was allowed to continue .his speeches, aud unless the Punjab Land Colonies Bill was vetoed. Government was unwilling to veto it but Lord Kitchener insisted.
The sentence of half a year which was passed on tho Calcutta extremist leader, Bepin Chandra, caused prolonged disorder in the streets, a crowd attacking tho police, also hissing the chief presiding magistrate.
