WOMEN’S DUEL WITH KNIVES.

A young woman answering tdtlio picturesque name of Niui de la Ohapelle, who, says the Fans correspondent of the Loudon Telegraph, seems to have been a well-known character in the Ohapelle quarter, is now lying at the hospital in a very Critical condition, in consequence ot a terrible duel with another young woman. Niui do la Ohapelle was seated at a table |in a popular cafe with another girl, and taking refreshmenst, when a third young . woman, a former friendf with whom I slie had evidently fallen out, entered i and challenged her to single combat. Niui took up the challenge on the \ spot. “I’ll show you that I’m not I afraid,” she said, and the two; young women, armed with knives, ; and followed by the rabble of the quarter, proceeded to the Place de la Ohapelle near by, where they had , plenty of elbow-room for the forth- | coming combat. The two antagonists wore soon m the midst of a grave encounter, and the rabble shouted and cheered. Suddenly Niui de la Ohapelle 'uttered a cry and fell to the ground. She had been stabbed through her lung, and was bleeding to death. The rabble instantly scattered and loft her lying in the square. The young woman’s friend, who had been with her in the cafe; alone came to her rescue, and, calling a cab, harried her off to the nearest hospital. The police are now searching for the young woman who inflicted the wound. Her lover, however, has come forward aud claimed the rights of all deullists. He says that the conditions were equally onerous on both sides, aud that the combat was a fair one. He showed a knife like the one used, which the police have, of course, confiscated.
