WOMAN’S STORY OF WEALTH.

A benevolent-looking, middle-aged American, who calls himself Prince Michael, came to England fourteen months ago and established himself at Now Brompton, in Kent, for the purpose of carrying ou the re-erec-tion of the deserted “ Jezreel” tower, the great building originally intended for the sect who label their buildings in the neighbourhood With the same name. The tower, witli its huge skeleton walls, had passed into the hands of a syndicate, and Prince Michael, the head of the sect in America, came to England and acquired the tower and its adjacent buildings. He arrived in May last year with two or three friends and took np his residence at New Brompton. One day last September there walked into the place a sweet-man-nered elderly woman, who announced her devotion to the cause. She confided that she had a fortune of £1,400,000, and that she was very well connected—was, indeed, related to the British Royal Family. Her religious fervour was great, aud her knowledge of tiie sect and its tenets extensive. Prince Michael admitted her to his household. For weeks she was feted, provided with dresses aud money (she was temporarily short of cash), aud given motor-car rides when she needed them. In response to her requests, jewellery was handed over to her. She made a trip to Paris, and told of various members of the aristocracy she visited. The end came in two mouths, when she went away to America.. In America she proceeded to prey upon the organisation of which Prince Michael was the head. The benevolent old lady’s haul in cash for two months amounted to £350. She is now doing well in America, hut Scotland A ard is engaged in investigating her operations.
