Addressing a Catholic conference at Preston, Archbishop Bourne declared that it would be impossible to maintain Catholic schools without State aid, aud if thoy were extinguished, socialism, anarchy, aud political disorders would bo the natural retribution. Ho appealed to Nonconformists not to deserve the hateful name of persecutors.
