At Wellington Supreme Court yesterday the Chief Justice gave judgment in the case Wellington City Council v. Liugard, an appeal against the decision of a Magistrate on a claim for rates. The Cliiet Justice also gave judgment in the case Commercial Union Assurance Oomnauy v. G. Gammon and Co. , sawmillors, a claim -to recover premiums which had been paid by promissory notes to George White, the company’s manager |for Hawke’s Bay. At his request the bills had been drawn in favour of White, who did not account for the 'money when the notes were met. The Arbitration Court this morning granted the Taieri Peninsula Company aud the Christchurch- Meat Company exemption from the operations’of the so far as they applied to Dunedin engine-drivers. The Bulb aud Spring FlowerShow, which opened at Martou today, is the best exhibition yet held in Marten. The number of entries greatly exceeds those of previous years and the quality of blooms excels anything previously _ exhibited. There is keen competition m all classes and the table decorations are quite a feature of the show—no _ less than 13 entries being received. Special attractions have been_ arranged for this evening aud Orozier’s String Baud will he in attendance. The judging was not completed when wo went to press. Some mild excitement was occasioned in the vicinity of Queen-streetion Saturday afternoon. A lorry with two horses attached was standing m Mr J. A. Smith's yard when the horses suddenly took fright and made for the Queenstreet entrance to the double fronts premises.
