Press Association—Copyright. Pretoria, September G. There are still 800 unemployed on the Rand, though tho mines are absorbing 50 weekly. Government has withdrawn the proclamation with regard to the Waterberg tin fields, where it was proposed to give work to the employed, fearing bloodshed, also fearing that the fields might fall into tne hands of capitalists. Government proposes to locate tho mineralised areas before placing the unemployed there. Replying to General Botha, who enquired if there was work for tho unemployed in Australia, Mr Carruthers, Now South Wales Premier, states that he will bo able to place 200 Rand unemployed. Sydney, September 7. With reference to the cable from South Africa Mr Carruthers states that General Botha asked Mr Deakin if New South Wales could take unemployed miners and assist them by a subsidy? Mr Carruthers declined, hut said 300 could get work at the barrier mines during next two mouths hut they must pay their own costs.
