PIRATES SECURE £SOOO.
There is quite an old-time flavour about a ‘ tale- which comes from Odessa. At 11 o’clock on Sunday uiffht, July 14th, the steamer Sophia wfis about 16 miles from Odessa on a voyage to Kortbion. The captain and passengers were having supper on deck when suddenly three young men appeared, and, covering the party, with revolvers, held them in check while two others seized the man at the wheel and ordered him, under threat of death, to set the ship’s course .for Odessa. Some ot the pirates, who numbered 18, then went into the first class saloon, I where they took possession ox an I iron cash-box containing £SOOO, i which was in charge of a cashier ot I the Russian Bank for Foreign Trade ! They also took £IOO belonging to t o i passengers. Then they disabled tie i engines, let off all the steam, ana 1 finally made their escape in two _oi ) the Sophia’s boats, after destroying L the third.
