The tower, SCO feet high, of tho famous Sanctuary 'of the Crucified at Boca collapsed owing to the disturbance of its foundations. A regiment of infantry had quitted tho Basilica a few minutes earlier but 110 lives were lost, though there were numerous remarkable escapes. Tho loss is estimated at JsJIOO,OOO. The chapel containing the .supposed miraculous imago of tho Madonna ia intact.
