HOCKEY.
On Saturday a ladies’ hockey team from Taihape carne'down and played tho Hiawatha Ladies’ Club. The weather in tho morning looked anything but promising, however, the afternoon turned out fiuo and although the ground was sloppy the match was very interesting. The two teams were well matched and at half time there was no score. During the second spiell, a little Taihape girl notched.a clinking goal. Though Marton pressed very hard at times tliey were unable to secure a goal, though Miss Sutcliffe made some very good attempts The match ended Taihape one goal, Marion nil. The Taihape forwards played a good game and kept in their, places well, the backs were_ mostly very sure and hit well. Miss Sutcliffe played a splendid‘game for. the, Marton forwards while Miss N\qttaU plavcd well in the second spell. Miss Mogridge waaMspeoially|uoticeable among the backs, stopping the ball well and hitting sharply. Miss Walters and Miss Grorm also did some good work, though the former was inclined on several occasions to hit the wrong way. The Marion half backs must try to use' their hands more ana get out of tho bad habit of ’ speculating. After the match tho Marton Club entertained their visitors at afternoon tea in St. Andrew’s Hall., Mr _ Outfield acted as referee, Messrs Kicoi and Fulton as lino umpires,
