BUTTER GRADING.

Messrs Weddell and Co.’s annual review of the produce trade insists upon tho necessity of the compulsory grading of Australian butter, such as had_ given New Zealand producers tiio choice of selling forward or consigning. The report suggest that New* Zealand graders should increase the marks awarded for flavour to 70 aud that the marks given for texture, color and got up should be reduced to 20 ; since a portion of first grade butter Is really' second grade, owing to faulty flavour, It state? that thore° is every indication that large supplies of butter will bo available for coming wic ter, but the trade is so prosperous that consumption is certain to bo well maintained, hut considerably lowef prices may bo expected for butter and cheese than obtained this year.
