MARTON BOWLING CLUB.
Annua! Meeting. The annual meeting Was hold last evening, Air J. M. Nicol, vice-presi-dent, iu the chair. There was a good attendance of members. The President, Mr J. McEldowney, was unavoidably absent. • The report ami balance sheet were read and adopted. Extracts from the report are as follows :—The roil of members totals oo and honorary members 18. The season was started with a credit balance of £2l 2s -id, but against this,a promissory none was about to falkluo for £75, for the ground for the tenuis club. It was agreed to cancel the lease of Bowling Club’s laud ancl give a promissory note for £155 Cs lid for both pieces of land for 12 mouths. This falls due on October 4th next and to meet the liability there is a credit balance at the bauw. of £BB Is 4d, with outstanding subscriptions of £ll 0s (Id. The incoming subscriptions, duo on October Ist will more than cover the deficiency. Mr McEldowney gave sufficient timber ami iron to erect it laxuo open shed. The “Advocate Feathers” are still .hold by Messrs Sharpe, Teuuout, Trott and H. Sutcliffe. The death of Mr S. Gibbous, president, was feelingly referred to. The bowls presented for competition by the late President wero keenly contested and eventually won by Mr H. H. Hunt and those presented by Mr J. AI. Nicol wero won by Sir J. A. -Pawsou. Mr Harry Sutcliffe’s handicaps gave entire satisfaction. The howls presented by Alossrs Clark and Sou wore won by Air H. Sutcliffe, who established a record by winning the championship throe years in succession. Satisfactory arrangements have boon made with the caretaker, Air Bondman, for the coming season and the committee desires to express its satisfaction with Air Birrimau S efforts to maintain a good green. Ho had been assiduous in his dhtiem courteous to alt and has a thorough knowledge of the requirements of the green. The committee desired to thank Air A. Barnes for the gift of choice shrubs, Mr Sladdeu for auditing the Club’s accounts, Mr McEldowney for his gift of iron and timber, tho wives of members and lady friends for providing afternoon tea' and those who so willingly gave their services and helped to make the social such a pronounced success. The thanks of the Club wm'G also due to the proprietor of the Advocate for publishing reports of meetings, etc., and to who : contributed to tho success of last season’s howling. The committee . recommended tho subscription ho £2 . 2s for tho coming season. ’ In moving tho adoption of the report, tho chairman referred to tho loss tho club had sustained through j the death of Mr S. Gibbous, who had done such good work in establishing . a green at Martou. Tho club were r iu a very satisfactory position <iuci they wore indebted to those who luid ' assisted financially. Ho complimented tho secretary on tho report presented. , ... , i The offer of the trustees of Alartou 5 AVesloyan Church for a right of way 1 to the green was not entertained. The resignations of Alossrs AV. L, [ Little, R. Young and A. , T . Gould were accepted with regret. ’ Eight new members and soVou ' honorary members wore elected. I Messrs A.
