Amateur Championships. Press Association Auckland, August 30. The Now Zealand Amateur Boxing championships were opened this evening in the presence o£ a large attendance and under the auspices o£ the Northern Boxing Association.. A fine exhibition of boxing was given. Results: — Lightweight—B. Mayze (Christchurch) defeated G. McCarty (Wellington), both 7st ; A. J. Blewden (Auckland) !)st 121 b defeated J. Newall (Invercargill) 10st. Middleweight—J. Gilraour (Christchurch) list lib defeated H. Fletcher (Wellington) lOst 81b. Heavyweight—H. Sandow (Wellington) 13st Gib defeated J. McConnell (Auckland) 13st 51b ; and the Australasian champion J. Lloyd (Canterbury) 12st defeated J. R. Hunter (Auckland) 12st 10!b. The finals will bo decided on Saturday night.
