THE SOCIALISTS CONFERENCE.
Press Association. —Copyright. Berlin, August 23. The Socialist Conference hotly discussed the utility of socialistic colonies. The resolution, which, apparently is receiving most support, is one which repudiates colonisation as at present conducted, since it only exploits new countries for the benefit of an insignificant minority while increasing the burdens ou the ?>ome proletariat. Tho resolution urges socialist members of Parliament to oppose the exploitation of tho colonies and insist ou an international understanding establishing a colonial code for tho protect!ou of aborigines. Another resolution rejects colonisation and derfauds a policy of peaceful development and placing natural .riclies at tho disposal of entire humanity. Indian delegates moved that the continuance of British rule is disastrous to India, and they urged lovers of freedom to liberate from slavery one-fifth of tho human race. After an exciting debate and much recrimination the resolutions were referred to a committee.
