\?or Press .Association.) Ei/nia-M, August 17. A Maori. lucl attempted to commit suicide sit Okaiawa by shooting himself in tho loft side. He is how in hospital, and is expected to recover. Wellington, August IG. An inquott was held to-day concerning the death of Henry Fan-brother, jockey, who received fatal injuries at the last Tmitham races, through Prospector, the horse lie rodo in the Jumpers' Flat Race falling and bringing other horses down. The evidence tendered went to show that the affair was a pure accident. Fairbrother had of his ribs on his loft side and four on tho right side fractured, and one of his legs dislocated at the hip and a lung rupture. Tho immediate cause of death was pneumonia. The jury returned a vei'dict of accidental death.' Oasiartt, August 17.
This morning an accident happened to a man named Thomas White, employed by the Railway Department. He and another were engaged in loading trucks containing a large case and two slabs of marble. The trucks bumped by a shunting engine, causing one of the slabs to fall across White's legs, breaking both. His companion narrowly escaped.
