Steffens retired to her room at ten o’clock at night, and thou discovered that her jewel safe had been opened. The key was still iu the lock, and eases which had ''contained various articles of jewellery were lying empty on the floor. The robbery had |becn committed some time during the preceding two hours, and its author or authors must have been perfectly acquainted with the flat, and with the habits of its occupants. The articles stolen include a diamond cluster valued at £2400, an ornament iu the design of a swallow, worked out in ipirecious stones and valued at £IOOO, and a collar of flue pearls.
