Auckland v. Taranaki.

Per Press A sscciation.

Auckland, August 10.

Auckland defeated Taranaki at hockey hero to-dav by two goals to one. There was a largo attendance at the Romuera polo ground, where the match took place. Auckland played a more scientific game than their opponents, who showed plenty of dash but little skill. The ground was heavy, and iu consequence the game was not very interesting. There was no score in the "first spell, "but the Aueklanclers missed several chances. Doyle scored for Auckland soon after the commencement of tho second half, and it was not long before Mason scored another goal. _ Towards the close Avery scored the visitors' only goal. Auckland have now met and defeated the Otago Goldfields, Manawatu, and Taranaki representatives, scoring 21 goals to 5. Hockey has firmly established itself in tho public favour here.
