During tho night attack at the Consulate at Casablanca ono French sailor was killed and three were badly wounded. Tho bombardment lasted 48 hours.-
Latest reports are that all is quiet. M. Du Chayala had proceeded to Mazagan, whore there is much disquietude. The Tangier correspondent of tho Times says that tho chiefs of Khama’s tribe demanded that Sir H. Mac Loan be surrendered to them and that Eaisuli has complied with tho demand. It is expected that this will lead to Mac Lean’s release. Tho Tangier correspondent of the Daily Telegraph states that 1000 Moors were killed at Casablanca. Morocco, August 9.
Admiral Philibert landed 200 men at Casablanca on the 7th inst, when the street fighting was continued. The Moors sacked the Jewish quarter and killed many, but the Europeans were safe aboard the steamers in the harbour or at the consulates. It is reported that six French soldiers who were wounded in tho first encounter are dead. , The Moorish quarter in Casablanca is in ruins. , The State Bank has been sacked and sixty thousand pesetas stolen. The land batteries have been destroyed. Pabis, August 9 It is recognised in France that the Moroccan affair is bigger than was expected, but the nation is firmly determined to see it through.
