THE THAW CASE.
Notwithstanding the reports that Harry K. Thaw, now in the Tombs Prison awaiting his second trial for the killing of Stanford White, has [ engaged a now director-general for ! Ids legal forces, it is stated authoritatively that ho has reached no final decision with Ids lawyers as to who will load the defence when his case comes np. In his solitude Thaw works unceasingly preparing a defence which lie will submit to Ids counsel for their consideration. The routine of his prison life docs not seem to dampen Ids spirits, his gaolers say. His “only companion within the prison is 'Raffaeie Cascoue, an Italian, awaiting Ids second trial for slaying two of Ids fellow-countrymen., Thaw associates with none of the other prisoners except Casconc, and every day during the exorcising hours this strangely contrasted pair walk the cell corridors together, engaged in quiet conversation. The Italian has told Thaw of Ids 32 mouths’ confinement in the “dead house” iu Siug Sing until the Court of Appeal granted him a new trial. Mrs Evelyn Nesbit Thaw and Mrs William Thaw call at the Tombs every day. Their coming and going arc unnoticed, and even the curious do not stare at the Thaws when thoyjjalight iu front of the Tombs. Harry Thaw is a model prisoner. He docs not cat the prison fare. Thaw shows no physical ill effects from his year’s confinement, though ids face has the usual prison pallor.
