Towns may have relied upon his protest being uphold, but he rowed suiiieientiy hard after tho incident to enable the relative powers of tho two scullers to be fairly guaged, aud on all sides Webb was Credited with being tho better geullor on the day. The win was deserved on its merits, aud though the umpire’s decision may be objected to on technical grounds there can bo little doubt that ou tho merits the verdict was just.
