A TRAGIC DILEMMA.

Compelled to choose between saving the lives of his two little sous or that of his wife, a French farmer, of Pout, near Le Puy, chose the fo/iner, and is now an agonised widower. M. Kuhue, with his sons,aged four and six, was waiting on the bank of the Allier for his wife, who had gone to a village on the opposite side of the river. The Ayife, on returning, started wading across the river instead of making a detour to cross by a bridge. The river was only three feet deep at the spot, the current was strong, and suddenly M. Kuhue saw his wife swept cff her feet and carried down the stream. He jumped into the river to her rescue, but the two little children followed their father’s example, and they also were swept down stream. The agonised father had to choose immediately, and he swam for the boys. He brought the two boys to the bank in safety, and then returned for his wife, but she had been carried into a deep pool lower down the river, and drowned.
